Will the Rise of AI Be Our Savior or Our Doom?

Will the Rise of AI Be Our Savior or Our Doom?

With AI on the rise and how efficient it is proving to be, it may very well lead us to a dangerous future, and a lack of need for humans.

AI technology has grown immensely and is far more advanced than it was anytime before 2021. Many occupations are using AI as it is believed to be more accurate and precise, while lowering the risk for human error and infection, making smaller incisions and sometimes giving a faster recovery time according to . For example, a surgery robot, though not perfect still reduces risk. Mortality rates of robotic surgeries are lower than non-robotic. “Overall robotic surgery had a lower mortality rate (0.097%) than non-robotic surgeries per 10,000 procedures.”

With all these positives, many researchers and technologist signed an open letter earlier this is to pause the use of stronger AI, as people don’t yet understand their use or how they can be regulated.

However, even with these efforts it can still get into the wrong hands.  This AI technology, though people have the desire to use it for good, can be used for corrupt purposes.  Such as access to government files, personal information, hackers, information could be leaked…If any of that were to happen, it would be horrible for our society.

One recent example of a very serious issue with AI arose when a New York lawyer faced backlash when he used the AI Chat GPT to produce fake court cases that he submitted to the court. When faced about this the lawyer said he had no idea the AI could make such an error.

This is why I believe that AI is very dangerous to our world. There is so much room for AI to go wrong especially due to how corrupt people are in this world, but if we keep this in mind we can easily avoid that allow AI to help us rather than hurt us.
